James Beaumier, DMA
Artistic Director 
James Beaumier is in his twenty-first season as Director of the Hartsville Community Chorus. Dr. Beaumier is currently director of choirs and Department Chair at Hartsville High School where his students have received Superior ratings at state and regional competitions. Dr. Beaumier is a National Board Certified Teacher and also teaches music in the International Baccalaureate program. Dr. Beaumier previously served as a Professor of Music at Coker College for 15 years, attaining the rank of Associate Professor.
He received his undergraduate degrees from the University of Washington and his Masters in Music from Western Washington University. He began his career in the state of Washington, directing high school choirs, bands and church choirs. Dr. Beaumier completed his doctorate at the University of Southern California in 1989. He has pursued post-graduate studies with Richard Miller at Oberlin Conservatory and Thomas Cleveland at the Vanderbilt University Voice Center.
Dr. Beaumier has twice been elected the State President of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and is currently in his third term as Governor of the South Carolina District. Dr. Beaumier is Director of Music at Wesley United Methodist Church in Hartsville, Director of Vocal Studies for the District ArtSummer Gifted and Talented Program and serves on the Board of the Hartsville-Coker Concert Association. He is an accompanist, adjudicator, choral and vocal judge and director of festival choruses.
